Construction Field Engineer/Assistant Superintendent

DC Beane and Associates Construction · Charlestown, Massachusetts

FULL TIME$75,000 – $75,000 / yr

Job Description

FIELD ENGINEER / ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT*

Commercial Construction

DC Beane and Associates is seeking a Field Engineer or Assistant Superintendent with hands-on experience supporting commercial construction projects. This is a field-based construction position, not a design engineering role.

The right candidate understands how an active construction site operates and can help coordinate the drawings, submittals, materials, documentation, subcontractors, and day-to-day information needed to keep a project moving. Candidates with Assistant Superintendent experience are encouraged to apply and should have a minimum of four years of relevant commercial building construction experience.

*Responsibilities*

* Support the day-to-day coordination and execution of commercial construction projects.
Assist the project team in obtaining, evaluating, coordinating, and distributing the information and approvals required to complete the work on schedule, within budget, and to the specified quality standards.
Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and other construction documents for accuracy, coordination, and constructability.
Manage the shop drawing and submittal process, including obtaining required information and approvals.
Distribute current drawings, specifications, and construction information to the appropriate project team members and subcontractors.
Track material and equipment releases to ensure they align with the project schedule.
Assist with subcontractor coordination, field planning, and the resolution of construction-related issues.
Prepare subcontractor change orders and change order requests to the client.
Review and prepare estimates for changes in the work.
Assist with contract item lists, project documentation, closeout materials, and final project records.
Maintain organized and accurate project records in Procore or other designated project management systems.
Support applicable EEO and project compliance documentation.
Participate in project meetings, site walks, inspections, and coordination efforts.
Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, architects, engineers, clients, and other project partners.
Perform additional project responsibilities as needed.

*Required Qualifications*

Candidates must meet one of the following experience requirements:

* At least two years of experience supporting active commercial construction projects in a Field Engineer, Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Assistant Superintendent, or comparable construction role; or
At least four years of hands-on commercial building construction experience for candidates applying from an Assistant Superintendent or field supervision background.

A degree in Construction Management, Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred. However, an engineering or architecture degree alone, without relevant commercial construction experience, does not meet the requirements for this position.

*Candidates must also have:*

* Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
Familiarity with submittals, RFIs, change orders, project documentation, and construction schedules.
A practical understanding of how commercial construction projects are coordinated and completed in the field.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The ability to organize priorities, follow through on details, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.
The ability to travel to project sites throughout New England.

*Preferred Qualifications*

* Experience with a commercial general contractor or construction manager.
Experience with life sciences, healthcare, institutional, commercial, or advanced technology projects.
Familiarity with Procore Construction Management, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office.
Basic knowledge of project accounting, estimating, and cost-control procedures.
Knowledge of general contracts, subcontracts, drawings, specifications, and common commercial construction practices.

* Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills.

* Experience working on construction projects in New England or elsewhere in the United States.

Compensation

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000. The actual salary offered within this range will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including the candidate’s relevant commercial construction experience, education, training, technical knowledge, demonstrated skills, certifications, level of responsibility, and overall alignment with the requirements of the position. Internal equity, current market conditions, project needs, and business considerations may also be taken into account.

This range reflects the compensation DC Beane and Associates reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. It represents base salary only and does not include any additional compensation or benefits for which the selected candidate may be eligible.

Location and Availability

This is an on-site, New England-based construction position, and we are seeking candidates available for immediate hire.

_Candidates who do not currently reside in New England must include a confirmed relocation timeline and planned move date with their application. Stating only that you are “open to relocation” is not sufficient for consideration_.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position requires regular visits to active construction sites throughout New England. Employees must be able to navigate work areas under construction, including climbing permanent and temporary stairs and ladders. The role may involve exposure to moving mechanical equipment, cranes, elevated structures, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and electrical hazards.

The employee must have the visual ability necessary to safely perform construction-site responsibilities, including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The position may occasionally require lifting or moving materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

The responsibilities listed above describe the general nature and level of work associated with this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list. Duties and responsibilities may be added or modified based on project and business needs.
