Job Description
Zia & Rabia Bhatti Foundation is establishing Barkat International College in Islamabad and developing Maktab, an integrated platform for student records, ERP, classrooms, and AI tutoring. We are seeking a hands-on engineer to take Maktab from its initial launch toward a reliable, secure, and scalable production service. Reporting to the Tech Lead, you will own AWS operations and help build the institution’s user support function.
Platform deployment and operations
- Build and launch Maktab on AWS, operating its application services, database, storage, search, load balancing, and network across primary and standby regions.
- Implement and regularly test backups, replication, disaster recovery, and regional failover against agreed recovery objectives.
- Manage identity and access, secrets, signing-key rotation, security, patching, and protection of student and financial data.
- Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, service-level objectives, on-call practices, and incident response runbooks.
- Maintain development, staging, and production environments and auditable infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD workflows.
- Monitor third-party integrations, including the AI tutor’s LLM API, and manage availability, latency, quotas, AWS costs, and scaling.
User support and collaboration
- Triage and resolve issues reported by students, teachers, and staff; elevate software defects with clear reproduction steps.
- Build support workflows, a knowledge base, user guides, service levels, onboarding, and training; feed recurring issues into product and infrastructure plans.
- Work with the Tech Lead, developers, and academic and operational colleagues on releases, engineering standards, documentation, and reliable systems. Help grow and lead the support team as the college scales.
Job Specification
- Hands-on AWS production operations, including EC2, RDS/PostgreSQL, S3, IAM, VPC, Route 53, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager or KMS.
- Docker and container orchestration experience; Linux administration and Python and Bash scripting.
- Multi-region systems, database replication, backups, failover, disaster recovery, and production incident response.
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation, plus CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
- Strong foundations in relational databases, networking, identity and SSO, and security practices.
- Clear documentation and strong spoken and written English and Urdu; patient, service-minded support for non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise under pressure, and communicate operational issues clearly.
- Helpful experience includes ERPNext/Frappe, Moodle, Keycloak, EdTech, production LLM API integrations, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, help-desk tools, ITIL, DevSecOps, or GitOps.
