Job Description

Controller

Our client, a media company whose revenue is driven by advertising, is hiring a Controller to run its accounting function and lead the people behind it.

Responsibilities

Run the monthly close and produce the financial statements, partnering with accounting staff and business owners to shorten the close timeline.

Manage the year-end audit and build the supporting schedules for audited statements.

Review journal entries and reconciliations for accuracy and GAAP compliance, and prepare variance analysis.

Lead and mentor the accounting team, including AP and AR, and build scalable processes for both.

Own upgrades and new rollouts of accounting systems.

Produce compliance packages for lenders and reporting for investors.

Oversee tax compliance at the federal and state level, working with registered agents.

Partner with the sales side on commission tracking and ad sales reports.

Requirements

CPA, plus a bachelor’s in accounting or a similar field.

10+ years of experience spanning public accounting and private industry.

Strong technical accounting depth, especially stock-based compensation, revenue recognition and complex transactions.

Experience reviewing revenue contracts with multiple elements, as well as vendor agreements.

Prior management of AP and AR teams, including standing up processes and systems.

Background in media or a start-up preferred, including a solid grasp of advertising revenue models.

Clear communicator with finance and non-finance colleagues and with executive leadership.

Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment, with a record of improving processes.
