Accounting Manager – Commercial Real Estate Development

About the Company
Our client is a growing commercial real estate development company based in Ellicott City, Maryland. Their team is collaborative, collegiate, and entrepreneurial — they work hard, stay engaged, and genuinely enjoy what they do.
The Role
We are partnering with them to seek an Accounting Manager to oversee operational accounting across our multi-entity project portfolio and support corporate finance, tax coordination, audit support, financial reporting, and budgeting and forecasting. You’ll manage one in-house staff accountant and report to the Controller and working closely with the CFO.
What You’ll Do
Own the monthly close process, including financial statement preparation, transaction review, and payment and bank-transaction approvals
Manage accounting across project entities, each structured as a partnership
Coordinate with external tax professionals — reviewing filings, answering questions, and providing supporting documentation
Support annual audits, including schedule preparation, financial activity explanations, and issue identification
Lead annual budget preparation, gather input from department heads, and maintain monthly forecasts and trailing-twelve-month analysis
Monitor project-level cash flows and report on variances
Manage and develop one staff accountant and coordinate daily workflow with outsourced accounting personnel
Leverage AI tools and Excel to drive efficiency and process improvement
What We’re Looking For
3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a management or supervisory role
Corporate or operational accounting background in a multi-entity environment (public accounting experience alone is not a fit for this role)
Familiarity with partnership tax returns and the ability to work effectively with tax professionals
Experience supporting financial statement audits
Advanced Excel skills — this role is heavily Excel-based and an assessment will be required
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Stable work history and a genuine interest in growing with a company long-term
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary commensurate with experience (100K-120K)
Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote
