You'll be designing the enclosure and brackets that keep flight electronics alive in orbit - and can follow your designs all the way through from prototype to test.
This a role for an engineer who enjoys real ownership - you'll the product you've design go into test and production, and shipped to customers who will send it to space. Your designs will have to survive launch and work for years where nobody can reach it.
You'll set the mechanical design standards for new product development, own all the analysis behind it, and be the engineer that the electrical team work with to ensure the integrated product works as it should.
This is a hands on design role - you'll architect the product, model it, analyze it, and then see it through design review and test.
This role is based on site in Fairfax, Virginia, and the base salary is in the region of $150,000 to $185,000, plus a bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
What you'll do
Design electronic assemblies, enclosures, brackets, and all supporting hardware
Run hand calculations and FEA for thermal and structural considerations
Create and maintain all the part and assembly drawings, including the application of GD&T principles
Support all the prototype build and integration, including working closely with the manufacturing team
Design fixtures, and support the vibration, thermal, and thermal vacuum testing, and review test data
What you'll need
8+ years experience of mechanical design experience, ideally in a sector such as aerospace or space
Solid design fundamentals, including knowledge of heat transfer, materials, and some structural and thermal analysis
