Powder Accounting Group provides bookkeeping and financial services for homeowners associations, nonprofits and small businesses in Summit County, and we're growing. We're adding a tax preparer for our existing clients. Many of them have non-calendar fiscal year-ends, so the work is light and steady year-round, not just in tax season. We'll start with roughly 10–15 returns, and we have the work to grow this into a larger, long-term role.
This role fits two kinds of people well:
** An experienced or semi-retired preparer** who wants a manageable book of returns each year
Prepare nonprofit returns (990-EZ, 990), including short-period returns from fiscal-year changes
Prepare 1120-S and 1065 returns
Track due dates and file extensions (7004, 8868) across fiscal year-ends
Deliver each return with a clear payment summary: federal and Colorado balance due, due dates, and next-year estimated payments
Maintain our tax calendar of filing deadlines, payments and quarterly estimates for every client
Handle IRS and Colorado correspondence: review notices (balance due, penalties, misapplied or returned payments), research the issue, prepare responses and follow through until resolved
Meet with clients in person in Summit County to review returns and discuss tax questions
** Requirements**
Active PTIN
Experience resolving IRS and state notices, including penalty abatement and payment tracing
Organized and deadline-driven, comfortable owning a multi-client tax calendar
Local to Summit County and available for in-person client meetings
EA or CPA preferred, or willing to pursue the EA
** Details:** Contract (1099) to start, part-time, year-round, flexible schedule. Work from home with in-person client meetings in Summit County. Our team keeps the books, so you'll work from clean, closed financials. No benefits are offered for this contract role. Applications accepted through December 1, 2026.
