Strategic Partnerships Lead — Volunteer Role
The role The Strategic Partnerships Lead finds organizations whose goals and mission overlap with ours and finds creative ways to work with them (not a check, a collaboration). Partners share an audience, a venue, a volunteer base, a mailing list, a storage unit, or a set of fields. They might even have a program that fits alongside ours.
This is a volunteer role on LTF's development team. What you'd do
Build a target list of nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties whose work sits next to ours Make the first contact and run the first conversation — curiosity, not a pitch: what are they trying to do, and where does it overlap with what we're trying to do Design the partnership: co-hosted events, shared audiences, referral pipelines, volunteer exchanges, donated space or services, joint grant applications, cross-promotion, running our program within theirs or jointly
Bring the structured ones back to the ED for sign-off, and help put the agreement in writing when one is needed Keep the relationship warm after the handshake — partnerships die from silence more than from disagreement Log every contact and partnership in HubSpot so the team can see the pipeline
What a partnership can look like These are examples, not a to-do list. Part of the job is finding the ones nobody has thought of yet. A youth-serving nonprofit with no sports arm. We could run EmpowerPlay alongside their existing programming.
A women-owned retail business. A shopping night where a share of the evening's sales comes to LTF, with L Club members invited first. They get a packed store; we get revenue and a room full of new supporters. A pro or college sports team. Their players could help with a clinic, a game-night takeover, a jersey drive. They get community impact that's easy to promote.
A gym, rec center, or church with open space. Use of fields or courts for camps and programming.
A corporate volunteer program. Their employees help coach summer camps. They meet their service commitment with something their people actually want to do.
Another nonprofit chasing the same funders. A joint application neither of us could file alone. Both of us get a bigger grant and a stronger story than we'd have separately. Who we're looking for No nonprofit experience required. What matters:
You're comfortable starting a conversation with someone you don't know, and you don't take a no personally You see connections other people miss — you hear about two organizations and immediately think of what they could do together You follow through. A partnership is a dozen small follow-ups, not one great meeting You can see the long game. Some of these take time
Commitment and support Time: roughly 2 to 4 hours a week, on your own schedule. Most of it is coffees, calls, and follow-up emails. Term: one year, renewable. You'd work with: the Executive Director directly, alongside LTF's development team. You're not doing this alone; the ED joins the meetings that need her. We give you: an LTF email address, HubSpot access, our program one-pagers and impact numbers, talking points, and a warm introduction wherever we already have one.
