Cold Head Operator

Position Overview

Sets up and operates cold heading machines to form bolts as specified by work order, blueprints, and/or drawing.

Pay Rate $23-$30

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Set-up cold header machines and auxiliary equipment (including wire drawers, grinders and turntables) per drawings.

Maintains machinery by following instructions on Maintenance Logs.

Receives and follows verbal and written instructions regarding duties to be performed.

Maintains production schedules and output.

Performs all other related job assignments and functions as assigned and/or required.

Must be able to perform some set-ups of machines.

Must be able to use measurement instruments.

Load and unload machines

Knowledge of using standard hand and power tools

Strong ability to follow oral and written instructions properly

Solid knowledge of installing and maintaining utility systems

Knowledge of precautions necessary for ensuring a safe work environment for self and coworkers

Physical agility aimed at performing manual labor

Deep knowledge of basic preventative and general maintenance activities

Ability to recognize hazards and take measures to avoid them

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Skills/Qualifications

Position Qualifications-High school or equivalent

Experience- 1-3+ years

Skills- Reads blueprint, Performs inspection: Visual,Micrometer, Calipers, Comparator, Overlays, Gauge, Depth Pins.

Some prior experience working with cold head machinery & equipment

Experienced with hand tools.

Able to operate semi-automatic machines

Must be able to verify work completed is per instructions given.

Communication skills ability to read, write and comprehend instruction

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, walk, reach frequently throughout the workday

Ability to lift items up to 40 lbs. without assistance

Forklift operation

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

General shop and machine tool noise, dirt, grease, and oils from the operation of machine tools and assembly of machines and equipment. Normal working position is standing or walking through out the plant. Some repetitive lifting/moving is required, depending on the daily assignment or tasks being performed. The weight can range anywhere from 1 to 75 lbs in which proper lifting/moving techniques are required.

1.Machine setup + mechanical aptitude

The strongest candidate should understand how to set up, adjust, load/unload and troubleshoot production machinery. Direct cold-heading experience is ideal.

2. Blueprint reading + precision measurement

They need to be able to read a blueprint/drawing and then verify the finished product using micrometers, calipers and gauges.

3. Cold heading / fastener manufacturing experience

Ideally, they have actually worked with cold headers or similar metal-forming equipment

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Strongly preferred

1–3+ years in cold heading, fastener manufacturing, or a closely related machine-operation environment

Previous cold header setup/operation experience

Experience making bolts, screws, fasteners, or similar formed metal components

Ability to perform machine changeovers/setups independently

Preventive maintenance or basic machine troubleshooting experience
