5+ years of accounts payable experience

Bachelor’s degree

Strong Excel skills

Experience processing high-volume invoices and payment requests

Experience with purchase order matching and account reconciliations

Experience researching and resolving invoice and payment discrepancies

Job Description

The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist will perform complex accounts payable activities for a local government organization, supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payment processing. This role will serve as a senior resource within the AP function, handling escalated invoice issues, vendor inquiries, reconciliations, payment processing, and financial documentation.

Review, verify, code, and process high-volume invoices and payment requests

Perform purchase order matching and account reconciliations

Research and resolve invoice discrepancies, payment issues, and outstanding transactions

Serve as a primary contact for vendor and internal department payment inquiries

Process vendor payments through checks, ACH, and other approved methods

Support month-end and fiscal year-end close activities and audits

Maintain compliance with accounting, purchasing, and internal control procedures

Provide guidance to AP staff and identify opportunities to improve processes and workflow efficiency
