Sales Talent Inc · Cary, North Carolina
Location: Remote role, you can be located in the Southeast/Central regions.
A nearly 50-year-old, family-owned snack manufacturer is investing heavily in retail growth and hiring a Grocery Business Development Manager to create and advance new opportunities with regional and national grocery retailers.
This is an established business with approximately $110M in revenue and roughly 10% annual growth. The retail division is growing and represents significant white space. This is a hands-on, revenue-generating role for an entrepreneurial, collaborative sales professional who enjoys building relationships, opening doors, and owning the sales process from prospecting through close.
The BDM will work closely with the VP of Sales & Marketing and the broader team from the company’s Charlotte headquarters.
Why This Role Stands Out
Work directly with the VP of Sales & Marketing: This is a collaborative, team-selling environment. You’ll own prospecting and pipeline development, independently close small and mid-sized opportunities, and partner closely with the VP on larger enterprise deals.
Real white space and visible impact: Retail is still a relatively small part of the overall business, giving you meaningful room to create opportunities and contribute to the company’s next phase of growth.
Marquee retail traction: The company already works with retailers including The Fresh Market, Kroger, Albertsons, Publix, Ingles, and Central Market.
Creative product influence: Help develop retailer-specific ideas across new products, flavors, pack formats, private-label programs, seasonal concepts, and custom solutions.
Multiple ways to win: Sell across branded, private-label, bulk, custom-manufactured, and retailer-specific snack programs.
Strong career runway: Join a company with a track record of promoting from within, employees with 20+ and 30 years of tenure, and a retail organization being built to scale.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $130-140K + Bonus (15% target bonus - company historically hits 100%!)
OTE: Approximately $150-160K
Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, HSA/FSA, LegalShield/IDShield
401K with Match
Company credit card, mileage reimbursement, laptop, etc.
What You'll Be Doing
Research and prospect qualified grocery retailers and buyers through email, phone, LinkedIn, networking, trade shows, and broker relationships. Once ramped, the goal is approximately 30–40 thoughtful outreach touches per week.
Secure buyer meetings, identify new opportunities, coordinate samples and presentations, and maintain consistent follow-up to keep deals moving. Target approximately 2–3 meaningful buyer conversations and 1–2 qualified new opportunities per week once established.
Close small and mid-sized opportunities independently while partnering with the VP of Sales & Marketing on larger enterprise presentations, pricing, negotiations, and closing.
Maintain a disciplined HubSpot pipeline with clear next steps, owners, and target dates while coordinating across Marketing, R&D, Operations, and Customer Success to advance opportunities and contribute toward $750-1.5M in incremental Year 1 revenue.
The Right Candidate
Ideally 3–10+ years of successful experience in CPG sales, retail business development, broker management, business development, or a related customer-facing sales role.
Hunter mentality: must be comfortable with prospecting, direct buyer outreach, getting meetings, preparing presentations, following up persistently, and managing multiple opportunities simultaneously.
Experience with food, beverage, snacks, grocery, or adjacent consumer products is highly relevant. Grocery experience is preferred, but not required; you should understand the fundamentals of retail selling and how products move into stores.
Entrepreneurial, organized, resourceful, coachable, and self-motivated. You take initiative, follow through, and can independently keep opportunities moving without needing constant direction.
